Loz’s Rules For Panto

Pace Is Everything

There Is No Invisible 4th Wall
It’s more enjoyable for the audience to see us cope with a mistake than to see us ignore it or pretend it didn’t happen.

The Right Songs
All songs should be in context & not overlong.

The Upholding Of Pantomime Traditions
Fairy on SR, Evil on SL, a ‘Skin’ costume, calls & responses, slapstick, topical & local gags, a song sheet, a happy ending.

Fun For All
Slapstick for the kids & double entendre for the adults. Plus watching the kids enjoy themselves for the Mums & ‘something extra’ for the Dads - use your imagination!

A Happy Company
If the cast aren’t comfortable with something - a joke, a song or a dance - change it!

Everyone is a character & everyone gets lines
No mute chorus members, even the MD & Band get lines.

Unless scripted - no laughing on stage (unless you’re evil)
Or you’ve been told to ‘cod corpse’ by the director.

A Character To The End
Bows & final lines in character - the show’s not over yet and this is more fun!
